Matthew is a musician and theatre artist currently based in Chicago, IL. Growing up in a musical family in Nashville, Tennessee led Matthew to pursue a career as a trumpet player, earning degrees from Oberlin College & Conservatory of Music as well as the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, ON.
After a lip injury forced Matthew to take an extended break from his orbicularis oris occupation, Matthew turned to theatre and acting as a new creative outlet. Matthew has since worked with such theaters as the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, American Players Theatre, Nashville Repertory Theatre, Nashville Children’s Theatre, Great River Shakespeare Festival, Nashville Shakespeare Festival, and Exit 11 Productions.
Matthew has since returned to his conical calling playing the trumpet (as well as occasionally keyboards, guitar, bass, and percussion) and has been fortunate to perform with a number of incredible artists and groups, including Stevie Wonder, the Punch Brothers, Chris Kirkpatrick (of NSYNC fame), Jeff Coffin, and the Nashville Symphony and at venues including the Ryman Auditorium, historic home of the Grand Ole Opry. He is passionate about work that uplifts marginalized voices and is a proud supporter of Arts Equity Nashville in his hometown.
In his spare time, Matthew enjoys being consistently disappointed by his favorite Nashville-based sports teams, listening to and arranging choral music, and eating delicious food with his beautiful partner, Natalie.
